Eco Council

The Eco group was established last year and participated in some amazing work with Mr Stewart looking out for our local community – litter picking and thinking of ways we could support local wildlife too, including building bug hotels down at Dighty pond.
The Eco group last year were also recognised city wide by the Evening Telegraph. Who recognised their efforts alongside Baldragon Academy, where pupils discussed ways in which they could be affected by things such as climate change. The group learned lots from working in partnership with Baldragon pupils. The group also regularly met to tidy the school playground.
This year the group has welcomed their new members from p1-4 and are excited to have the views of the whole school represented. It’s wonderful seeing more pupils taking on leadership roles within their own classrooms. The group wanted very much to continue the positive start they had made last year. At their first meeting the pupils decided their priority was to continue to promote recycling within the school, continuing paper recycling in each class. The Eco representatives prepared a short presentation which they delivered to each class reminding them about the importance of paper recycling and ensured each class had a recycling bag.
The Eco group had designed posters last year highlighting the issues with litter in the playground. In recent sessions they had begun to prepare these for display around school, hoping to have a big launch of their campaign to ‘Keep Sidlaw View Tidy’. The group were also preparing a PowerPoint presentation and information for an Assembly for their launch. They were keen to highlighting the work they were doing and ways to promote the correct disposal of litter in the playground. They also wrote letters to the appropriate council departments to request recycling bins for use throughout the school. They were keen to get back to litter picking in the playground and really promoting the pride we have in our school and encouraging everyone to take care of our community.
